Girls Hockey

The Junior Fuel are proud to feature a first class girls hockey program beginning play in the 2016-17 season .  Open to girls ages 9-19, the Junior Fuel will field all-girls teams at both House and Select League levels.  All girls eight years old and younger are encouraged to join the Lil Nitro program.

Why play girls hockey?

Playing with female peers may be important for many young girls to feel like they fit in. They may have fewer self-esteem issues playing with their peers than with boys. USA Hockey’s most recent growth and retention studies found 54% of 8U girls players quit the game before they progress to the 10U level. There are several reasons for this, including the fact that girls are social beings - they may play on all-girls team because they want to play with their friends or sisters. Girls Only Skates

The Junior Fuel are proud to announce "Girls Only" skates. These skates will travel between the Fuel Tank at Fishers and Pop Weaver Youth Pavilion on Fridays this season. Associate Hockey Director Laura Daniels will lead skaters and goalies through drills and fun on-ice activities.

These skates are open to all girls participating in Junior Fuel and Learn to Skate or Learn to Play programs at the Fuel Tank at Fishers and Pop Weaver Youth Pavilion. Players involved in those programs do not pay any additional fees.

"We are excited to offer a program in central Indiana for girls hockey unlike any before it," said Jessica Knox, the Commissioner of Girl's Hockey for Junior Fuel. "Interest in girls hockey has always had a presence in central Indiana. We now have the team to create a permanent program and give girls hockey a true chance to grow from the ground up."

Girls at all ages will have an opportunity to participate. As the program grows, the Junior Fuel plan to increase opportunities for girls hockey players.

"Growing girls hockey in central Indiana has always been a passion of mine," said Knox. "I grew up playing here. Programs came and went. Central Indiana needs a stable program so all girls have this great opportunity. The mission of Junior Fuel works for both growing boys and girls. It only makes sense for us to take this next step."

The Junior Fuel aim to create a complete Girls Hockey program in the future. For now, the focus is to have place where girls can try hockey in a comfortable environment and maintain a level of excitement.
